Book Event: “The Marriage Plot, Or, How Jews Fell in Love with Love, and with Literature” with Naomi Seidman

February 9
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Event Category:

Bldg. 360, CCSRE Conference Room

In her new book Naomi Seidman considers the Jewish move from traditional arranged marriage to modern romance through the literature that provided Jews with a sentimental education. She argues that the Jewish adoption of European romantic ideologies was always partial and ambivalent, forming a distinctively Jewish approach to sex, love, and marriage that in the twentieth century became the dominant romantic discourse in the West.

Sponsored by the Taube Center for Jewish Studies and co-sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
