The Parables of Jesus: Jewish Stories, Christian (mis)interpretation, Universal Lessons

May 10, 2016
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Event Category:

Bldg. 360, CCSRE Conference Room

Lecture by Amy-Jill Levine (Vanderbilt University). Sponsored by the Taube Center for Jewish Studies and co-sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies.

Jesus told Parables — the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan, etc. —  to fellow Jews. Recovering that original setting corrects their frequent anti-Jewish interpretations, provides a grounding for better Jewish/Christian relations, and offers new insight into both ancient and contemporary social relations.

Amy-Jill Levine is E. Rhodes & Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University.
