A Debate: What Was Heidegger’s Problem?

February 24, 2015
4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Event Category:

Building 110, Room 112

Lecture by Joseph O’Leary (Sophia University, Tokyo), with response by Thomas Sheehan (Stanford, Religious Studies), followed by discussion. Sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies and open to Stanford affiliates.

Exactly what was the central topic of Heidegger’s philosophy? Most scholars claim it was “being” (das Sein). Tom Sheehad argues that it was certainly not “being.” He proposes a radical paradigm shift in how to read Heidegger. Joseph O’Leary argues that Sheehan is far off the mark.
