"January 6th, the 2024 Election, and the Ongoing Radicalization of American Evangelical Christianity"
American evangelicalism has been a major force in right-wing American politics since at least the 1980s, but in the past decade (beginning with Donald Trump's first campaign for the presidency), we have seen a compounding radicalization of American evangelical politics. This burgeoning evangelical militancy was viscerally evident on January 6, 2021, as evangelical leaders, symbols, and rhetoric were integral to the violent attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Who are the leaders and what are the theological paradigms behind this step-change in anti-democratic evangelical activism, and what do these changes augur for the future of religious politics in the US?
