Caiyang received her BS in Math and Religion from Tufts University and further delved into Chinese Buddhism during her MA study at Columbia University. She currently works on the social and cultural history of Chinese Buddhism in the Middle Period (7th to 13th century), with particular interests in its ritual life, its intersection with popular religion, and the ramifications of esoteric elements.
